Ilya Makarov, a neuropsychologist with ten years of experience working with children with nervous system disorders, asked us to create a mobile app to help parents cope with the difficulties of parenting and provide practical advice.

Customer Development

Our product managers conducted research and gathered requirements to ensure the app had all needed functionality. Interviews of potential users revealed the need for an app to provide exercises and psychological help/support from medical specialists, especially for parents of special children to cope with negative emotions, burnout, and depression.

What’s inside

This app needed to be functional on multiple devices, so we chose React Native, a popular cross-platform framework, to build a single app for both iOS and Android. We also created an admin panel with the interface implemented in React.js and the server part built on the Django framework. The admin panel allows to add new corrective exercises, publication of new articles, and moderation of forums.

UX/UI Design

Our goal was to create an intuitive app that parents could use without technical difficulties. We did a hallway usability test to find all the issues of our audience and create an app that's easy to use.

We chose pastel colors as the main palette — bright colors can distract or irritate users. We made a character for the app too - a nice doctor - to give emotional help and good feelings to users and patients.

App for parents and doctors

The app provides over 500 exercises created by specialists for various symptoms, such as low mobility, muscle hypertonicity, inability to recognise one’s own name, aggressive behavior, and more. Parents can track progress, communicate in forums and get help from doctors and lawyers. It also has a SOS button which provides tips and instructions on how to overcome emotional burnout.

The app is also useful for young doctors, specialists in psychology, neuropsychology, neurology, and defectology. Specialists have access to the database of exercises and can publish articles with their research. The app has a rating system, where doctors can earn points by consulting users and answering questions in forums.

Results

We’re proud to have participated in a project that makes our world a better place. We wish the project owner, Ilya Makarov, all the best as he continues to improve the app. The project has already been implemented, but we continue our cooperation, providing technical support for the app and adding new functionality.
